About This Project
Summary
Latinos, especially women, face unique challenges in saving for and living in retirement. On average, they have less wealth, lower income, and less access to retirement plans than white peers and are more likely to be caring for family elders. We wanted to share with AARP’s large, diverse audience how Latina caregivers are navigating those hurdles as part of a larger package of articles dealing with the retirement landscape for Latino families generally, spotlighting their American stories.
Goals & Objectives
Elevate the voices of first- and second-generation Latina immigrants, show how family, culture and community impact their ability to build long-term financial security, and offer practical advice and bilingual resources to help them reach that goal.
Results & Impact
The article demonstrated AARP’s commitment to examining issues through an equity lens and helping ensure all workers have the opportunity to build a stable and secure retirement. A social media post on the article drew a broad (7,700+ likes and reactions) and empathetic response.
