ABC News Live: Ten Million Names

About This Project

Summary

ABC News partnered exclusively with the 10 Million Names Project, a groundbreaking endeavor aimed at unearthing the names of 10 million formerly enslaved African American people whose names and contributions have been erased or hidden due the brutal history of slavery.

Goals & Objectives

Using oral tradition, documents and photos of the descendants of formerly enslaved people, 10 Million Names genealogists and researchers aim to breathe life into the family trees of millions of Black Americans by documenting every person enslaved in pre and post-colonial America prior to 1865.

Results & Impact

These stories help to inform and educate the larger public while illuminating the simple fact that Black history is American history – essential for all of us to understand.
