About This Project

Summary

Renegades is a five-part documentary short series (approx. 12 minutes each) featuring overlooked historical figures with disabilities and their impact on U.S. society. Hosted by blind musician and advocate Lachi, it premiered on PBS’s American Masters in October 2024. Produced through a pilot incubator for disabled filmmakers—promoting inclusion, accessibility, and authentic storytelling by disabled creators.

Goals & Objectives

Renegades aimed to pair compelling disability history storytelling with an incubator for 24 disabled filmmakers, industry-leading accessibility implementation, and comprehensive community partnerships with disability-led organizations and PBS stations nationwide

Results & Impact

Renegades exceeded expectations in audience reach, accessibility, and community impact. With 1.5M+ views by June 2025, accessibility features, and 100% positive feedback from 650+ attendees at community events it proved the power of authentic, accessible content to engage audiences and build talent.
