About This Project
Summary
The Next Africa podcast brings timely, ground-level reporting from across the continent, showing how global decisions directly shape African lives. In 2025, four episodes explored the consequences of foreign policy shifts in the United States and Russia, focusing on foreign aid, labor practices, and diplomatic tensions.
Goals & Objectives
The series aimed to reveal how decisions made in global power centers such as Washington and Moscow affect humanitarian services, livelihoods, and governance in Africa. Each episode was grounded in original reporting, verified sources, and input from people directly impacted.
Results & Impact
After Bloomberg’s reporting on the Alabuga Start program, Interpol Botswana confirmed an official investigation had begun. Our March 6 episode covered damage caused by U.S. foreign aid cuts. Following that episode, the World Food Programme confirmed the closure of its Southern Africa bureau.
