About This Project

Summary

Brightband is a Public Benefit Corporation committed to open sourcing benchmark datasets, machine learning models, and metrics to establish a common task for global weather modeling and forecasting. We believe this will spur innovation and benefit all of humanity. The NNJA-AI dataset is an AI-ready version of the NOAA-NASA Joint Archive of Observations, and is intended as a shared standard dataset to enable innovation in AI weather forecasting models directly from observations.

Goals & Objectives

Objective was to become the standard dataset for AI weather forecasting directly from observations.

Results & Impact

Presented at American Meteorological Society 2025 Annual Meeting. Been used by most AI weather observation forecasting researchers including Google, NVIDIA, Microsoft and startups like Windborne, Sorcerer, Zeus.ai, Silurian, Jua etc.
