About This Project
Summary
Citizen Solutions is an initiative by Builders – a nonprofit to overcome toxic polarization – that gives citizens across the ideological spectrum the power to co-create solutions to divisive issues. During a facilitated “solution session,” participants create consensus-based policy proposals to address issues suffering from hyper-partisan gridlock. People statewide weigh in on the proposals to help gauge which ones have majority support and mobilize behind them to drive legislative change.
Goals & Objectives
Through storytelling and legislative change, Citizen Solutions aims to rebuild America’s problem-solving muscle and counteract the cynical narrative perpetuated by the most polarizing actors in politics and media who want us to believe common ground does not exist and solutions are not possible.
Results & Impact
Piloted in Tennessee on guns and in Wisconsin on abortion, this effort has resulted in 10 common ground proposals, one law passed in Tennessee, 8.9 million impressions on social media, 53 feature news stories, and hope for the majority of Americans exhausted by division that solutions are possible.
