About This Project
Summary
More than 1 million adults in the U.S. identify as transgender. The vast majority of these people will seek gender-affirming care (GAC), but access is a major challenge. It’s difficult to find a provider trained in gender-inclusive, competent care. 70% of gender-diverse adults report experiencing discrimination from past healthcare providers. To address this issue, Carrot launched GAC coverage so that employers can include GAC as part of their inclusive fertility benefits to support employees.
Goals & Objectives
The goal of launching GAC coverage was to (1) break down existing barriers and connect people with personalized care that’s right for them and (2) support employers’ DEI initiatives by offering inclusive benefits.
Results & Impact
Launched in late 2023, Carrot’s GAC offering includes education, emotional support, chats with GAC experts, specialist care, and gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT). Several employers now offer Carrot’s GAC coverage to their employees.
