Lectura Lounge: A Cool Place to Read

Summary

Lectura Lounge is the first operating program of our 501(c)(3) family foundation, Casey & Charley's Foundation for Dogs and Kids. The Lounge is a cozy, inviting community space, set up like a living room, and since its opening has launched a reading buddies program, a writing workshop (funded by Summit County's RAP Cultural Tax Grant), an interactive Spanish-speaking session, a book club for the local homeschooler network, and a speaker series that will focus on multilingualism and its benefits.

Goals & Objectives

Our original goal was to support the Spanish Dual Language Immersion program in Park City School District and to promote bilteracy with our reading buddies program. Since our opening in January 2024, our space has evolved into so much more—a haven for our community to gather and share stories.

Results & Impact

Reading Buddies has seen at least 100 children, and at least 20 regular adult volunteers, read to each other twice weekly. Watching our community at our space, realizing most never would have interacted otherwise, has truly been gratifying—one would have to witness the magic to see its impact.
