About This Project
Summary
ChiByDesign partnered with Nike and Gary Comer Youth Center to co-design criteria for new programming for young African-American women in Chicago that embodies their definitions of wellness. Through co-design workshops, the young women echoed social, economic, systemic, and mental hurdles they experience that prevent them from achieving their desired wellness goals. Based on this, we facilitated them to imagine routines, spaces, and people needed to enable them to achieve their wellness goals.
Goals & Objectives
The project aimed to address the unique wellness challenges young Black women on the South Side of Chicago experience. We sought to understand their vision of wellness and co-create events/programs/services in Chicago that embodies these aspirations.
Results & Impact
The result was design criteria for Nike to develop wellness programming that allows young Black women to safely express and manage emotions and cultivate self-love. After seeing their ideas in action, the young women expressed the desire to continue creating events that support their wellness goals.
