About This Project

Summary

Jennie Joseph’s leadership over 35 years in the USA has fueled a national movement for birth equity through The JJ Way® model - a person-centered, culturally-humble, midwifery model of care.. Her strategy blends community-centered care, provider training, and health system accountability to eliminate racial disparities in maternal-child health. She advocates strongly for safety for mama/baby/family, as well as for the providers who care for them in America's 'Materno-toxic Zones'.

Goals & Objectives

To deliver safe, equitable, and quality maternity care to every person, every time; and to grow a diverse, community-based and community-led perinatal workforce with power to influence systems and policy change to protect Black or Indigenous people or marginalized birthing families in the USA.

Results & Impact

Jennie’s leadership has enabled care for thousands of families, trained hundreds of providers, and built community power into perinatal ecosystems. Her model has shaped national discourse, influenced policy, and empowered grassroots maternal health networks accross the USA.
