About This Project
Summary
Physician suicide is a devastating crisis that rarely makes headlines. Doctors continue to burn out two times faster than the general public, and female physicians are at even higher risk. And every year, 400 physicians die by suicide. In society, mental health and suicide is still highly stigmatized. For physicians, it can be even harder. Doctors are the healers. How can they be vulnerable and seek help for themselves?
Goals & Objectives
Reach people expected to hide their pain to confront the deep stigma around mental health. Our mission? To change the statistics. The heart of our effort is the powerful story of one life saved: Dr Carrie Valdez, Trauma Medical Director from Columbus Ohio. A story of hope designed to save others.
Results & Impact
We set out to challenge policy but ended up saving a life. Dr Valdez’ story is testament to her courage & today it’s being featured at hospitals & congresses across the US. As Dr Valdez said: “I don’t know if they knew this would help save my life, and if we can help one other person, it’s worth it”
