About This Project

Summary

Climate change impacts the lives of Lobuin, Vanesa, and Soma, three women from very different parts of the planet, but with one thing in common: all three lose everything due to the effects of global warming and are forced to migrate to survive. BLACK BUTTERFLIES tells their stories, their struggle to survive despite their place of origin no longer existing. Their lives, like those of thousands of people who suffer the consequences of global warming, deserve to be told.

Goals & Objectives

The goal of "Black Butterflies" is to raise awareness about the climate crisis and the forced migration it causes, using animation to highlight the stories of women displaced by global warming and to advocate for legal recognition of climate migrants, promoting a more just future.

Results & Impact

The film was presented at the UNITED NATIONS - New York, where UNHCR Director Sivanka Dhanapala said it was the best tool to raise awareness about the plight of the leading cause of global migration. Black Butterflies received the Platinum Award for Best Ibero-American Animated Film in 2025.
