About This Project
Summary
Gen Z gets 1,000 fewer hours of in-person connection time each year compared to their predecessors. That's countless missed opportunities to create IRL relationships, leaving this generation feeling lonelier than ever. Hinge introduced One More Hour - a program dedicated to tackling the loneliness epidemic for young adults. To start, we partnered with DoSomething.org and the Foundation for Social Connection to launch a $1M fund supporting local social groups who foster in-person connections.
Goals & Objectives
Connection and belonging must happen on a local level. Hinge wanted to directly invest in grassroots social groups–reading clubs, surf collectives, gatherings of film enthusiasts–that rarely receive philanthropic support, but create IRL connection opportunities everyday.
Results & Impact
Hinge selected 40 social groups in Atlanta, LA, and NYC who each received $25,000 to expand access for Gen Z and support their work in large cities with high-potential for isolation. Additionally, the funding eases the challenges founders face in helping others build community.
