About This Project

Summary

Google Language Explorer is an interactive website and open-source data repository. Our task was to take a Github page that's been primarily used by researchers and turn it into an easy to navigate data visualization. The site is powered by data collected by Google on the world’s 7,000+ languages. Much of the linguistic information currently available online lives behind a paywall, or may be outdated entirely. This data is now accessible to everyone for free in the Language Explorer.

Goals & Objectives

Our goal was to create an inspiring visualization of this data. With over 7,000 languages in the world and only a few easily accessible online, this website is a step towards breaking down communication barriers for all.

Results & Impact

This data visualization marked a first-of-its-kind externalization of Google's efforts in the language AI space. This site was supported by an organic social media campaign across a variety of Google channels spiking traffic and inspiring thousands.
