About This Project

Summary

Surveillance Watch is an interactive map revealing the intricate connections between surveillance companies, their funding sources and affiliations. In building this platform, we wanted to present a logical, engaging and compelling experience to properly highlight the scale of the story within the data. Elevating these insights meant bringing together thinking design, development and user experience, to plan and build the most effective and engaging interactive digital narrative.

Goals & Objectives

The project was built upon a substantial depth of research data, with an ambition to present and elevate it online - in such a fashion that audiences could quickly comprehend and be engaged by the story within the data, and feel encouraged to explore and share what they saw.

Results & Impact

The website has gained attention across news and social media, and is being referenced in a number of humanitarian movements worldwide, with various civil society organisations already using it to inform and empower their campaigns on privacy and human rights.
