About This Project
Summary
The With Humanity campaign brings awareness to the staggering loss of life in the Mediterranean Sea as refugees and asylum seekers make dangerous boat journeys to the European Union for a chance at safety. It urges the EU to protect the rights and lives of people on the move, uplifts a humane narrative, and exposes how EU public money is used to push people back to unsafe countries. Running in six languages, it includes a public petition, explainer video, social media assets, and an ad program.
Goals & Objectives
The campaign calls on Frontex, the EU border and coast guard agency, to use its aerial surveillance to help save lives at sea. It humanizes the stories of people on the move and warns of the EU’s externalization tactics—pushing back asylum seekers to unsafe countries, fueling human rights abuses.
Results & Impact
The campaign reached 2.4M+ in the EU, with the video reaching 1M+ online. The petition, supported by 22 groups, gathered 18K signatures. Above industry benchmarks, on average 1 in 4 people who saw it signed on. HRW delivered the petition to Frontex, opening a promising new phase of dialogue.
