About This Project
Summary
Gaining access to finance is difficult for many Indian women—especially those from indigenous and remote communities—who have never before worked with formal financial institutions. To expand access, IFC and the World Bank have collaborated with India’s Rural Development Ministry and a local non-profit to help women entrepreneurs graduate to individual bank loans. Now, women entrepreneurs with access to finance are expanding businesses, providing jobs, and contributing to national growth.
Goals & Objectives
Empowering female entrepreneurs is central to India’s growth. We introduce 3 female entrepreneurs who launched businesses with tiny loans. Their success demonstrates that access to finance can transform women’s lives and help India reach its goal of becoming a developed country by 2047.
Results & Impact
Over 50K people have explored the story, engaging deeply with real-life examples of how microloans are unlocking economic potential for women in rural and indigenous communities across India.
