About This Project

Summary

This short film tells the story of Tita, an elderly fieldworker, who reluctantly hires an AI humanoid to fill in for her picking strawberries. She attracts the engineers' attention because their humanoids cannot do her back-breaking work. This film was made by Indeed's Rising Voices film program. Rising Voices is an initiative that discovers and invests in BIPOC filmmakers to tell stories about the future of work through the lens of their communities.

Goals & Objectives

The film’s goal was to weave a narrative that explores the intersection of humanity and technology. It's goal is to challenge stereotypes not only about POC/Latine working-class communities, but also to provide a nuanced portrayal of artificial intelligence and the impact of job displacement.

Results & Impact

With audience screenings and film festivals, the film encouraged audiences to consider the complex relationship between human workers and advanced technology. In discourses viewers emphasized the importance of empathy, ethical considerations, and the human spirit in an increasingly automated world.
