About This Project

Summary

What if men got as excited about their family’s health and vaccines as they did about football? Breakthrough ACTION aimed to promote male involvement in vaccination across Nigeria, Cameroon, Tanzania, and Mozambique during the Africa Cup of Nations football tournament. The campaign ran on TV, radio, through digital and social channels, and in the community. Famous Nigerian, Tanzanian, Mozambican and Cameroonian sportscasters were recruited to play themselves in the iconic TV and radio spots.

Goals & Objectives

The goal was to promote COVID-19 vaccination among vulnerable people as well as routine immunization. Given the campaign targeted men, the objective was to get men to speak with their family about the importance of vaccination and encourage family members who needed to get vaccinated, to do so.

Results & Impact

The campaign reached 95,205,955 people through TV, 42,629,109 people through radio and 24M people through social media. 9,905 individuals attended campaign community events with 762 receiving vaccines on site and a door to door campaign in Cameroon reached 120,000 people, with 6,798 vaccines given.
