About This Project
Summary
Johnson Outdoors and the National Wildlife Federation launched the Clean Earth Challenge to turn concern into action. Local JO “Challenge Champions,” alongside NWF programs—Eco-Schools inspiring K–12 students, Eco-Leaders on 1,000+ campuses, Earth Tomorrow engaging underserved youth, and the Great American Campout reaching 15M annually—helped first-time and seasoned volunteers alike take ownership of their communities, removing 11M+ pieces of litter.
Goals & Objectives
The Clean Earth Challenge set out to spark a grassroots movement for cleaner parks, waterways, and natural spaces. With a goal of removing one million pieces of litter, it started with JO employees and expanded through NWF’s youth and community networks, creating real stewardship from the ground up.
Results & Impact
Led by 70+ JO Challenge Champions, employees across JO brands—Scubapro, Minn?Kota, Old?Town Canoes & Kayaks, Jetboil, Cannon, and Humminbird—joined forces with 50+ partners and NWF grassroots programs. Together, they engaged hundreds of thousands and removed 11M+ pieces of litter—1,000% above goal.
