About This Project

Summary

33% of the world cannot access the Internet, and for learners in these areas, there are also fewer opportunities to benefit from project-based learning approaches where technology can be a strong enabler. Flying Colors leverages technology to implement project-based learning to build skills & knowledge acquisition facilitated through real-life experiences, all in low-resource environments. Teachers facilitate collaboration to solve real world problems along with tailored digital materials.

Goals & Objectives

The goal of the project is to build foundational literacy and numeracy skills for out-of-school refugee learners in northern Uganda, as well as build social-emotional learning competencies. Concurrently, the objective was to build teacher's confidence & skills in blending technology into learning.

Results & Impact

By the end of a 12 week program, all learners improved in reading, with 73% reading paragraphs, and in numeracy, with the majority performing 1- and 2- digit addition/subtraction. 99% enjoyed school, and 98% re-enrolled in schooling, demonstrating positive engagement through a tech-based approach.
