About This Project

Summary

From May 2024- April 2025, Moms Clean Air Force (Moms) ran a robust, multi-pronged public awareness campaign about the dangers of plastics from production to disposal. The organization mobilized a network of more than 1.5 million members across the U.S. to curb the production of plastics, halt the build-out of “advanced recycling” facilities, and educate the public about how to reduce their exposure to the dangerous chemicals in plastic products.

Goals & Objectives

Moms mobilized communities in PA, WV and OH where petrochemical buildout is surging. Using social media, earned media, and ads to connect the dots between petrochemicals, climate change, and the threat to children’s wellbeing–and move members to call for policies that protect the health of families.

Results & Impact

The campaign garnered thousands of petition signatures, including the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act petition, which had 19,600 signers. It also generated 95 news stories and 1.3M impressions on social media. The campaign concluded with a summit that had 182,500+ views on the livestream.
