About This Project
Summary
In response to dramatic shifts in the US consumer debt landscape, MMI created the Consumer Distress Dashboard to provide journalists with a real-time look into changing trends in consumer financial stress and debt challenges. It aggregates MMI's proprietary client data taken from interactions with thousands of debt-burdened Americans and their credit reports each month. It visualizes trends in financial counseling demand by age group, average unsecured debt load, income, and budget deficit.
Goals & Objectives
The goal was to deliver a unique perspective on consumer health and reinforce MMI's position as a leader in public discourse on financial wellness. The dashboard complements the knowledge of MMI's subject-matter experts and the lived experiences of MMI Peer Advocates (a 2024 Silver Anthem winner).
Results & Impact
Launched in April 2024, the dashboard has become a key asset in growing MMI's media coverage and helped MMI reach a record 130MM broadcast impressions in 2024, a 2x increase from 2023. Dashboard data was the basis of a question posed to President Trump during the NABJ Convention (YouTube URL above).
