About This Project

Summary

The viral special event series El Tiny, a takeover of the Tiny Desk Concerts, in bespoke Alt.Latino fashion is part of NPR Music's celebration of Latin Heritage Month. The month-long concert series brings performances from various music genres and backgrounds within the Latino community including Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and more recently Spain. The series is curated by Alt.Latino podcast hosts Felix Contreras and Anamaria Sayre.

Goals & Objectives

Alt.Latino taps into NPR's North Star mission of diversifying its audience and content by providing bilingual content, reaching Spanish-speaking listeners, and introducing its audience to alternative Latin music.

Results & Impact

With 12.6 million views, El Tiny reflects the full diversity and richness of our Latinidad. As Felix says: “A foundational principle of Alt.Latino is my strong belief that music can be a sociological snapshot for communities with a direct or historical connection to Latin America.
