About This Project
Summary
With only 2% of tech jobs held by Black women, Black Girls Code nonprofit partnered with Pastilla to evolve from coding camps into a national movement rooted in mentorship, empowerment, and cultural storytelling. Drawing from the tradition of quilting, we built a brand system where students contribute threads to a collective digital quilt. The new identity launched at AfroTech 2024 and now positions BGC as a vibrant platform for visibility, leadership, and community in tech.
Goals & Objectives
Our objective was to evolve Black Girls Code into a scalable movement by reimagining its voice, visual identity, and digital presence. We aimed to center student stories, celebrate cultural roots, and invite wider engagement from donors, partners, and aspiring technologists.
Results & Impact
The brand launch at AfroTech 2024 marked a turning point in visibility and engagement. BGC now stands out in tech with a bold identity rooted in empowerment and community. The participatory system has increased student involvement, sparked new partnerships, and boosted early-stage metrics.
