About This Project
Summary
Virtual health centers are a digital structure offered by affiliates across the Planned Parenthood federation for an end-to-end virtual patient experience. In states that ban abortion, this structure has allowed for the ability to more easily diversify and lift services including birth control, gender-affirming care, and STI testing and treatment. In states that have maintained access to abortion, they create another means to open the door to patients to get the care they need.
Goals & Objectives
In 2022, on the heels of the Dobbs decision, we started with a pilot of two virtual centers. We quickly moved to a goal of building as many virtual health centers as affiliates wanted, optimizing the process and making it as smooth as possible for our users and our affiliate partners.
Results & Impact
Thirty-one virtual health centers (VHC) are live representing, 24 states and 45% of Planned Parenthood affiliates. Year-to-date there have been over 26,000 VHC appointments. Birth control visits are the most popular. 22% of all Federation gender-affirming care appointments are through VHCs.
