About This Project
Summary
First Peoples Melbourne Art Trams is a travelling art exhibition that is delivered as part of RISING Melbourne, an annual arts festival in Melbourne, Australia. Each year, First Peoples artists are invited to submit their work. In 2024, 6 new trams hit the tracks, with brand new work from 5 First Peoples artists, and a special tribute tram. The project is instrumental in creating significant and impactful opportunities for First Peoples artists.
Goals & Objectives
1. Amplify the voice of First Peoples artists 2. Use a highly visible and accessible stage (trams) to showcase First Peoples works 3. Provide Melburnians and visitors access to mass-appeal public art 4. Add to the tram commuter experience and reinforce Melbourne’s reputation as cultural leader.
Results & Impact
The project created opportunities for 6 First Peoples artists to connect with audiences in dynamic ways. It also attracted significant media coverage which bolstered the reach and impact of the trams. Results included: • 312k social media impressions • 51.3% average EDM open rate • 29.3M media reach
