About This Project

Summary

Since 2017, nonprofit financial innovation firm RUNWAY has partnered with values-aligned investors to provide holistic and reparative financing on a mission to close the racial wealth gap. The newly-launched RUNWAY ROOTED Fund builds on six years of experience and impact. It is a $50M integrated capital fund that provides flexible funding to businesses and entrepreneurs that build community wealth in Black communities in various locations in the United States.

Goals & Objectives

We started out in Oakland and Boston with Friends & Family financing in partnership with CDFIs, credit unions and banks. We now have the nation’s first integrated capital fund. The Fund provides reparative capital and holistic support to creative entrepreneurs building wealth in Black communities.

Results & Impact

The Fund aims to generate entrepreneur and community wealth, cultivate worker power, promote cultural production, build local political power to address systemic inequities and influence policy, and shift the culture of finance to prioritize people, community, and the planet alongside profits.
