About This Project
Summary
ScholarCHIPS is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide college scholarships, mentoring, mental health supports and a robust support network to children of incarcerated parents, inspiring them to complete their college education. ScholarCHIPS was founded by Yasmine Arrington Brooks, who is also the child of an incarcerated parent. Yasmine was named one of the top 10 CNN Heroes in 2023.
Goals & Objectives
ScholarCHIPS launched a visual podcast (pilot), funded in part by the Open Society Foundations Soros Justice Advocacy Fellowship, to highlight the voices of youth on what it's like having an incarcerated parent and other social issues. One clip alone gained over 3,000 views on Instagram!
