About This Project
Summary
The Youth Mental Health Corps launched in 2024 to address the dual challenges of youth mental health needs and health workforce shortages. The initiative employs young adults ages 18–24 as trained near-peer navigators who serve in schools and local organizations while exploring career pathways in behavioral health. Our digital campaign raised awareness and activated young leaders to support students, sparking a growing movement to reimagine how local communities address mental health challenges.
Goals & Objectives
Engage young adults as leaders in addressing the youth mental health crisis in their communities, foster community trust in peer-based models, create education and workforce pathways in behavioral health, and inspire investment for a nationwide youth-led service initiative in local communities.
Results & Impact
In Year One, the YMHC recruited 300+ young adults and supported 10,000+ youth, resulting in improved attendance, decreased behavioral incidents and increased help-seeking behavior. In Year Two, YMHC’s local, peer-led mental health support is expanding from 4 to 11 states, representing 275% growth.
