About This Project
Summary
The Coalition for Antiracism and Equity (CARE) at Sesame Workshop, the global impact nonprofit behind Sesame Street, helped launch the organization's formal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiative and advise on policies and practices through a DEI lens. Employee volunteers from diverse backgrounds, departments, and levels of seniority helped support the creation of a staffed DEI department, targeted DEI learning and development for all employees, and employee resource groups (ERGs).
Goals & Objectives
The goal was to bring together an employee-led volunteer group to build the foundation for a sustainable DEI initiative at Sesame Workshop and provide diverse perspectives on organizational practices and policies.
Results & Impact
Due to CARE's efforts, we established a Chief DEI Officer role and hired 3 additional full-time employees to create a DEI team; the domestic workforce committed to DEI learning sessions once a month for 8 months with a 100% participation rate; and we successfully launched 4 ERGs.
