About This Project

Summary

The Global Culture Trust is a diverse group of 34 volunteers across Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind Sesame Street, that helps ensure authentic and inclusive representation of culture and identity in content across all media, licensed products, and themed entertainment experiences. Culture Trust members review content, help develop guidelines, author foundational frameworks and articles and act as a think tank offering creative ways we can to authentically represent culture and identity.

Goals & Objectives

We aim to support teams as they work to authentically represent the diversity of our global audience, counter stereotypes, and avoid cultural appropriation in media content, licensed products, and themed entertainment experiences featuring our brand.

Results & Impact

Culture Trust members review 120+ content pieces per year—from social media posts to books and media. To strengthen team members’ abilities to create content that authentically reflects the children and families we serve, they also developed a rubric and guidelines for teams to use.
