About This Project

Summary

The Takalani Sesame Big Feelings Special follows Reporter Elmo, Reporter Zuzu, and Reporter Zikwe as they embark on a mission to find out how South Africans of all ages experience and cope with Big Feelings. Along the way, the furry Takalani friends meet up with notable South Africans (Comedian/Actor David Kau & South Africa’s Women’s National Soccer Team Banyana Banyana) and everyday South Africans to learn strategies to cope and thrive while experiencing Big Feelings!

Goals & Objectives

Following the Global COVID-19 pandemic, research found levels of anxiety and depression rose throughout South Africa. Takalani’s The Big Feelings Special was designed to meet the moment for South Africans and distribute crucial information on how to talk about emotions in a fun and engaging way.

Results & Impact

The Big Feelings Special aired on SABC 2 specifically during a family viewing time-slot. This free-to-air network reaches over 3.6 million children monthly. The Special was released along with Season 14 of Takalani with over 500K views, reached over 3 million, & had over 9 million impressions.
