About This Project
Summary
Project goals are to both raise the next $5M of a $22M capital campaign, while also paying tribute to the role Bud Collins played in the history of Sportsmen’s Tennis & Enrichment Center. Sportsmen’s is the first indoor, non-profit tennis club in the country built by and for an African-American community. Bud’s advocacy helped convince Boston to allow us to build on what is now Harambee Park, and brought Arthur Ashe, Billie Jean King, Rod Laver and other tennis dignitaries to Boston.
Goals & Objectives
To create a fundraising video to build support for a tribute to Bud Collins at Sportsmen’s Tennis & Enrichment Center’s expanded facility. Narrated by his widow, the video passionately shares Bud’s love for Sportsmen’s, and our impact on the tennis community in Boston and throughout the country.
Results & Impact
Raised the first $1.2M, secured fundraisers at the prestigious Pucker Gallery in Boston, and at the West Side Club in NY during the 2025 US Open. Secured an exhibit of Billie Jean King’s Original 9, and Billie Jean’s commitment to attend the dedication when the Center is built.
