About This Project
Summary
The Speechlist campaign is a set of curated playlists that recreate historic speeches from the past word-for-word using the titles of songs by today’s Black artists. Each Speechlist leads people to discover new artists with a link to non-profit DESTA's page, where they can learn how to support talent who face barriers to their careers because of their race. The Speechlists were launched on social media, re-shared by influencers, and promoted through strategic out-of-home placements.
Goals & Objectives
In alignment with DESTA’s mission of empowering the Black community, Speechlist's goal was to bring awareness to inequities that exist by amplifying the voices of iconic figures who fought for justice & equality while simultaneously promoting the music of a new generation of Black talent.
Results & Impact
During Black History Month, Speechlist accumulated 9.2M song reproductions and more than 200 artists were promoted. DESTA had a 5% follower growth, and on social media the campaign reached more than 1M. Most importantly though, the impact translated into $1.7M earned media for the emerging artists.
