About This Project

Summary

This episode, hosted by celebrated civil rights advocate Kimberlé Crenshaw takes listeners to Selma, Alabama for the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday and the March to Montgomery in 1965. Through conversations on the ground with activists from the 1960s and today, this episode stresses the importance of knowing history in order to stop it from repeating, and spotlights an historic moment in Black history amid its erasure from museums, school lessons and government databases across the country.

Goals & Objectives

The objective was to provide in-depth coverage of an historic civil rights anniversary, drawing a throughline between the fighting for voting rights in 1965, to fighting to stop disenfranchisement and the censorship of African American history that's happening today.

Results & Impact

The episode has received 7000 downloads to date, and was re-shared on social media by prominent African American civil rights organizations and their leaders, as well as independent journalism outlets.
