About This Project
Summary
There is a systemic lack of data for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities which renders the inequities we face invisible to policy-makers, leaders, funders and the AANHPI community. TAAF prioritizes data as a key lever of change, providing critical foundational research to inform solutions and policy. The STAATUS Index (Social Tracking of Asian Americans in the United States) is the first study in over 20 years of American attitudes towards AANHPIs.
Goals & Objectives
Stereotyping can lead to scapegoating, which can then lead to violence, impacting the sense of belonging of AANHPIs. Understanding what stereotypes exist in American society will help us understand how we are viewed. Now in its 4th year, the study has become a reliable pulse on AANHPI issues.
Results & Impact
Since the inaugural survey in 2021, STAATUS has become a benchmark for the AAPI community. The only unique study of its kind, it is widely used as a resource by press to support storytelling, educators for academic research, and elected officials for policies and programs.
