About This Project
Summary
Harlem Is Everywhere marks the first podcast produced to accompany an exhibition at The Met and the first series dedicated to exploring the Harlem Renaissance as a transnational cultural phenomenon. Featuring a diverse cast of artists, writers, and musicians, the podcast is organized in thematic chapters on self-representation, entertainment, and activism—spotlighting the extraordinary creative and intellectual energy that marked the era and laid the groundwork for the Civil Rights Movement.
Goals & Objectives
Our goal was to produce a podcast that could bring the Harlem Renaissance to life and serve as an educational resource after the exhibition closed. We included excerpts in the galleries, expanding the range of perspectives offered to listeners and underscoring the artworks’ contemporary resonance.
Results & Impact
Our podcast was the #1 visual arts podcast in the U.S. for several months during the exhibition’s run (with more than 35,000 downloads across platforms). It was selected as an Amazon Staff Pick and shared widely across The Met’s social media with high levels of positive engagement across platforms.
