About This Project

Summary

Covering the devastation of Asheville’s historic 2024 flood, writer Britt Stigler explores the physical and emotional toll of the mountain city’s art community. In an interview with two artists, Annie Kyla Bennett and Hannah Wood who lost their studios, the story highlights how creativity and community are vital tools in healing and looking ahead with hope.

Goals & Objectives

The goal was to shed light on a timely story about an art community’s experience with a devastating natural disaster. While ALL ARTS primarily focuses its coverage on New York City as its epicenter, this type of coverage links regionally varied art communities together and inspires action and aid.

Results & Impact

The resulting article pulled together a wide-ranging interview to tell the story from the perspective of an arts organization and an artist as they processed the effects of the climate disaster and their immediate needs. The piece also featured links to resources to directly help community members.
