About This Project

Summary

Black trans people are among the most marginalized Americans.?And because they are also closest to some of the nation’s most pressing problems, they are often able to craft innovative solutions. Follow award-winning journalist Imara Jones as she travels across the country to tell the stories of three Black trans leaders on the frontlines of change: housing advocate Kayla Gore; Breonna McCree, a champion for economic empowerment; and Oluchi Omeoga, who fights for the rights of?migrants.

Goals & Objectives

The series amplifies the often untold success stories and innovative solutions of three Black trans leaders. Despite a record-breaking number of anti-trans bills passed in 2023, they are creating solutions to critical issues surrounding economic empowerment and human dignity with heart and vision.

Results & Impact

The series has garnered over 95k views on YouTube since the fall and reached an even broader audience via a PBS WORLD Channel broadcast. At a Juneteenth screening event, the three Black trans leaders shared that the series is a moment to celebrate and that it gives them hope to continue their work.
