About This Project
Summary
A record number of children – 1/5 girls and 1/7 boys – suffer sexual violence every year. That is 3 girls and 2 boys per second. For the first time we can measure the global scale of this scourge. In 2024, Together for Girls, with UNICEF and others, extensively researched the global prevalence of sexual violence against children (SVAC). We collaborated with Guinness World Records to share this world-first research at the Global Ministerial Conference on VAC through our #BreakTheRecord campaign.
Goals & Objectives
Publish world-first data on the global prevalence of SVAC Encourage governments to break their record of inaction by making commitments at the Conference through these figures Empower academics, civil society and advocates to use these figures to keep governments accountable for their pledges
Results & Impact
Broke the Guinness World Records title for the most countries represented at a childhood violence summit (119 governments) Break the record of inaction on SVAC (+100 commitments) #BreakTheRecord reached 10 million people Our figures have been used by key stakeholders in our field for their advocacy
