About This Project
Summary
You’ve heard the stories—people scammed out of life savings meant for their children or retirement. But have you ever wondered who’s on the other end of the line? It’s not who you think. Criminal syndicates are pulling off one of the greatest global heists of our time, and they’re using modern slaves to do it. Escaping Scam City tells the true story of Ava and Micah, a young couple whose lives change forever after what they think is a dream job leaves them trapped in a Cambodian scam compound.
Goals & Objectives
Stories change hearts and hearts change the world. By using compelling, long-form storytelling, rooted in authentic experiences and narratives, we hope to amplify small voices and drive change for good. ESC raises awareness of the epidemic of forced scamming, and its vast human cost.
Results & Impact
With minimal ad spend, ESC saw 145,000 downloads to date, and harnessed the energy of global listeners whose advocacy and organic financial contributions have helped 1) support our protagonist Ava in her ongoing legal battle in Thailand; and 2) repatriate hundreds of other scamming survivors.
