Asthma & Health Equity: Like Mother, Like Son

About This Project

Summary

Monique Cooper knows how her son feels when he can't breathe, when he's wheezing and his chest hurts. They both have asthma and know what's at stake. Our breaking barriers series sets out to highlight the issues diverse people deal with when it comes to their health conditions. In this video we were able to capture the obstacles of asthma for black people through a mother and a son.

Goals & Objectives

We wanted to raise awareness about the seriousness of asthma especially for black children. It is something that has been overlooked in healthcare and we wanted to educate our audience on it and give impactful examples of the importance of awareness.

Results & Impact

the video was well received and has been impactful on our site since it has been paired with a doctor's interview discussing many of the challenges black people with asthma face with the healthcare system. It accomplishes our goal of educating through personal experience and inspiring our audience.
