About This Project
Summary
Badger launched its first broad spectrum mineral sunscreen in 2005, and we’ve been on a mission ever since to raise public awareness that it is the safest option for people, coral reefs, and marine ecosystems. Through advocacy and direct consumer education, Badger has been doing its part in caring for the health of people and our oceans for 20 years, including supporting bans on chemical sunscreens in places like Hawaii and supporting organizations working on coral conservation and restoration.
Goals & Objectives
Our goal has been to expand awareness among our customers and consumers while supporting conservation efforts through product and financial donations, using science-backed information, and lobbying at the federal level on policies regarding chemicals in sunscreens.
Results & Impact
We have seen the banning of chemical sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate in places like Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the FDA's shift in 2019 with the proposed rule that only two ingredients, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, are "generally recognized as safe and effective.
