About This Project
Summary
Adaptive Adventures provides progressive outdoor recreation opportunities to improve quality of life for children, adults and veterans with physical disabilities and their families regardless of location, equipment needs or economic status. In 2018, Adaptive Adventures established a sustainable program in Puerto Rico after finding out not a single adaptive cycle existed on the island. Today the program thrives with hundreds of veterans benefitting and programs provided 3-5 times per week.
Goals & Objectives
To establish a sustainable adaptive recreation program, by training up local leaders, providing necessary equipment and resources (i.e. registration platforms, insurance, admin support) and growing the number of offerings provided in cycling, climbing, hiking and paddling.
Results & Impact
In 2024, Adaptive Adventures’ Puerto Rico program served 401 unique veterans, delivering 2,005 participation days of adaptive recreation and community engagement. These veterans represented 36 out of 78 municipalities across the island, highlighting the program’s broad reach and island-wide impact.
