101 East investigates the environmental cost of illegally mining the world’s oldest mountains while amplifying the voices of brave local residents in India as they take on powerful miners.
Goals & Objectives
The project’s goal was to reveal how India’s ancient mountain range, the Aravallis, are disappearing, ravaged by illegal and toxic mining carried out to feed New Delhi’s construction boom. The film shows the brave activists taking on powerful miners to try and halt a looming ecological catastrophe.
Results & Impact
With 415,000 YouTube views, the film was reviewed by India’s Supreme Court committee. Online comments include: “Us citizens of India should be aware of these pressing issues and take action to help our society just like the beloved activists in this video” and “These activists are true patriots”.
