About This Project
Summary
Started in 2020, Bloodworks 101 is an Anthem Award-winning, weekly podcast produced by Bloodworks Northwest, a Seattle-based blood bank and research center. It's the only regularly scheduled blood banking podcast in the nation. The podcasts are designed to inspire people to donate either time, money or blood. And that's a tall order. Only three out of 100 people donate blood in this country. Blood banks are continually operating at a point where they barely meet hospital demand for blood.
Goals & Objectives
We can't rely on celebrity guests. We don't have the budget. We depend on compelling stories, designed to inspire listeners to donate either time, money or blood. We discuss everything from blood donation to trypanophobia (fear of needles). Our goal is to share podcast stories to attract media.
Results & Impact
Since 2020, we've produced more than 200 episodes, and more than 30,000 downloads. But most importantly, we've been able to show a clear line between podcast production, subsequent media coverage and an improvement in the blood supply. When we declare a Code Red on a podcast - the media responds.
