About This Project

Summary

Sixties is a youth-led music video created by the KRUNK Movement at Center of Life. Inspired by the killing of Michael Brown and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, students wrote and performed original verses reflecting their pain, pride, and power. Through mentorship, workshops, and studio sessions, they transformed grief into protest and music into a call for justice.

Goals & Objectives

Sixties was created to help youth process systemic violence through creative expression, strengthen their understanding of civil rights history, and equip them with tools to speak truth to power using music, performance, and cultural storytelling.

Results & Impact

Sixties sparked lasting change. The project coordinator became a police officer who now mentors youth as a model of service. The program has scaled, paying students to create original work. Alumni have won major awards and worked with global brands demonstrating the power of investing in youth voice
