About This Project

Summary

Every year, hundreds of journalists are attacked, imprisoned, or killed. For more than 40 years, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has been promoting press freedom worldwide and defending the right of journalists to report the news safely and without fear of reprisal. In its defense of journalists, CPJ protects the rights of all people to access independent sources of information -- an essential part of a free society.

Goals & Objectives

CPJ has spent countless hours in Washington, Brussels, and elsewhere around the globe advocating for accountability in an attack that killed Reuters journalist Issam Abdallah. We spoke with his colleagues who survived the attack - putting human faces on the attack to further advocate for justice.

Results & Impact

CPJ has continued to meet with lawmakers and diplomats, setting up meetings with survivor Dylan Collins at the U.S. State Department, and showing this video to lawmakers like Bernie Sanders. Abdallah's name has since been included on many congressional letters seeking to stop atrocities by the IDF.
