About This Project

Summary

The Plunge for Elodie began as a local effort in Wellesley, MA, in honor of 8-year old Elodie Kubik, who lives with a severe form of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). EB is a life-threatening, rare, genetic skin disease that, due to a lowered life expectancy, primarily affects children. As Elodie's family and friends learned about EB and the larger rare disease community, it became clear how desperately diseases like EB need funding to find to find treatments and cures. Thus, the Plunge began in 2018.

Goals & Objectives

The Plunge set out to raise funds and awareness for EB so that one day, Elodie and the 500K people around the world suffering from EB could live their lives free of pain, and in the meantime, know that they do not face this battle alone. All proceeds support EB Research Partnership to fund research.

Results & Impact

In '25, the Plunge exceeded its goal and raised $650K+, from 20 global sites, bringing its total fundraising to $3M+, all to directly advance innovative and promising EB research. Since the Plunge began, there have been 3 FDA approved EB treatments, one of which Elodie is currently benefitting from.
